Kiir sacks head of state oil company

President Salva Kiir on Friday night fired the head of the government-owned Nile Petroleum Company (Nilpet), which oversees the South Sudan oil industry.

In his decree, Kiir did not explain the reason for the sacking of the Managing Director of Nilepet, Dr. Chol Deng Abel.

In another decree, President Kiir appointed Bernard Amuor Makeny as the new Managing Director of Nilepet, replacing Dr. Chol.

The new Managing Director of Nilepet, Bernard Makeny, holds a Masters’s Degree in Oil and Gas Management from the University of Liverpool, UK.
