13 pupils miss out on CPE exams in Unity State

At least 13 pupils in South Sudan’s Unity State could not sit their Certificate of Primary Education examinations which started on Monday.

The state education minister, Stephen Tot Chieng, told Radio Tazamuj that 10 male and three female candidates did not receive their index numbers from Juba.

“We sent all the names to Juba, no names were left here. The problem is Juba, not Unity State,” he claimed.

He noted that 2,872 candidates, of whom 905 are females, registered for the national exams that run through February 17.

Minister Tot pointed out that the only challenge facing Unity state was the displacement from floods in the last three years.

Mr. Gatgun Chiepiny, the Deputy school officer at Upper Nile Primary school in Bentiu IDP camp expressed disappointment that eight of the school’s candidates did not receive their index numbers.

“Our pupils are the first pupils to register for the exams but now our school is leading in the number of pupils who will miss out in the state,” he lamented.

The ministry urged those that did not receive their indexes, to wait for instructions from the national education ministry.

Over 200 pupils missed the CPE exams in Unity State last year.
