Khartoum state Minister for Agriculture support the Green Belt Project
Khartoum, 9 March (SUNA)- Khartoum state Minister for agricultural and animal resources, dr Mohamed salih Jabir, has reaffirmed the state full support for the green belt project that will protect the national capital against desert creep, and help with the food security, and at the same time help absorb carbon emissions.
The Minister has underlined the importance of the first international Environment conference set to take place in Khartoum this March.
He explained that his Ministry ensures the technical supervision over the project which is funded and implemented buy the Higher Council for Environment.
He said the forests department meanwhile provides the scientific consultancy on the type of trees to be implemented, the density and length and the spacing and other scientific aspects of the project.
He said saplings would be ensured by the trained cadres from the ministry.
The minister has pointed out in a statement to the Sudan news agency that it was imperative to stop all types of urban expansion against green areas, saying the state would rely on the upcoming plan for restructuring of Khartoum in which over 3 million fedans of green and forests were set.
It is to be note that the cultivated areas in Khartoum state alone cover over 700 thousands fendans.
