Vice – President Gives Directive for Purchasing Wheat Directly from Farmers
Khartoum, Mar. 10 (SUNA)- Vice – President of the Republic, Hassabo Mohamed Abdul-Rahman, has directed the Agricultural Bank to provide the required funding to purchase wheat from the producers directly.
He also affirmed the government readiness to fill any gap in providing the funding through the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Sudan.
This came when the Vice – President received in his office at the Republican Palace the General Director of the Agricultural Bank, Salah-Eddin Hassan Ahmed, who informed the Vice – President of the preparations to commence the wheat harvest in the agricultural season 2015 – 2016.
In a press statement, the General Director of the Agricultural Bank has affirmed the bank’s readiness to purchase wheat from the farmers directly at the price of 400 pounds for the one sack as of March 15.
He expected to harvest to be between 400.000 – 500.000 tons of wheat in this season which will cover 40 % of the country’s need, indicating that the cultivated area extends to 450,000 feddans in six states, 65% of it exist in Gezera State.
The General Director of the Agricultural Bank has affirmed that the productivity of the one feddans amounts to 22 sacks at a number of areas, indicating that all the harvest requirements were provided, including the harvest machines and sacks.
He directed the bank’s branches all over the country to purchase wheat from the farmers.
Meanwhile, the General Director of the Agricultural Bank announced that the country’s sorghum reserve has amounted to 800, 000 tons.
