PORT VILA, Vanuatu (November 2, 1997 – PACNEWS)—Vanuatu has begun an aggressive campaign to achieve membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The country’s delegation to the WTO meeting in Geneva, led by Minister of Trade Barak Sope, already has conducted formal talks about its membership application with delegations from Australia, Canada, the European Union, France, Japan, New Zealand, and the United States.
Vanuatu’s Acting Director of Trade and Commerce, Roy Mickey Joy, says membership in the WTO would enable Vanuatu to increase trade and promote its development plans internationally.
