Khartoum, April 6 (SUNA)- The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Abdul-Ghani Al-Naeem, received in his office Wednesday the visiting European Union Commissioner of Development and International Cooperation, Neven Mimica, and the accompanying delegation.
The spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Ali Al-Saddiq, said that the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has spoken about the US economic sanctions on Sudan and their negative impacts on the relations between Sudan and the European Union.
He said that the Undersecretary has conveyed Sudan desire for establishing a real partnership with the European Union and suggested formation of a committee for political consultation between Sudan and the European Union to discuss bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual concern.
He said that the Undersecretary has expressed Sudan desire for an effective role of the European Union for ending Darfur issue, especially that some member states in the European Union are hosting leaders of the Sudanese armed and political opposition.
Ambassador Al-Saddiq indicated that the Undersecretary of the Foreign Minister has conveyed Sudan call for a bigger role to be played by the European Union for ending the embargo which is being imposed on Sudan.
He said that the Undersecretary called on the European Union to invest in Sudan for contributing to the development process in the country.
The Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry has conveyed to EU official the condolences on the recent bombings in Brussels and affirmed Sudan condemnation to all forms of violence and terrorism.
The Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry has expressed Sudan appreciation of the European Union’s initiative to follow up outcome of the visit of the Foreign Minister to Brussels.
He reviewed at the meeting the economic and security situation in the country and the influxes of refugees in Sudan from other countries.
He also affirmed Sudan readiness to cooperate with the European Union in issues of mutual concern like immigration, cooperation in the field of development, stability in neighboring countries and the combating of terrorism.
Meanwhile, the European Union’s Commissioner for EU Commissioner of Development and International Cooperation, Neven Mimica, said that his visit aims to follow up outcome of the visit paid by the Foreign Minister to Brussels in last January.
He said that his visit to Sudan aims for holding talks on the issues of illegal immigration and human trafficking.
He appreciated the cooperation between Sudan and the European Union in different fields.
He announced donation of the European Union to 100 million Euros to help refugees, besides 40 million Euros for implementation of Khartoum process and 15 million Euros for helping the countries hosting refugees.
