Portsudan: Vice-President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Commander Malik Aggar, held a meeting with the US Special Envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello, in Portsudan on Sunday. During the meeting, Vice-President Aggar expressed gratitude for the envoy’s visit, acknowledging the delay but highlighting the significance of Mr. Perriello’s ongoing efforts through various international conferences and meetings aimed at resolving the Sudanese crisis.
According to Sudan News Agency, Commander Aggar noted the fluctuating nature of Sudanese-American relations throughout different periods, emphasizing the Sudanese government’s desire to establish relations that are aligned with the aspirations of the Sudanese people and founded on mutual respect. He remarked that the envoy’s visit is a promising start for a renewed relationship, particularly because it commenced at the Sudanese government’s headquarters, rather than through indirect means such as airports or phone calls, which he believes will better serve th
e interests of both nations.
Vice-President Aggar pointed out that the ongoing crisis in Sudan has been influenced by internal factors and externally supported by the United States and Europe, with financial aid from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He urged the US to leverage its relationship with the UAE to halt support for the Al-Dagalo militia if it genuinely wishes to end the conflict. Furthermore, he criticized the presence and influence of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia as a barrier to achieving democracy and stability in the region.
The meeting also covered discussions on the Jeddah Agreement, which was facilitated by the United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Vice-President Aggar acknowledged the agreement’s potential but criticized its lack of implementation mechanisms, noting that discussions between Sudan and the US leadership are ongoing to address these issues.
