khartoum: President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces (SAF), General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, met on Tuesday with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Tom Fletcher, in the presence of Ambassador Omar Issa, Acting Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). Ambassador Omar Issa highlighted in a press statement that the meeting was positive and fruitful, focusing on the overall humanitarian situation and the efforts being made to deliver humanitarian aid to those in need. The UN Under-Secretary-General expressed his satisfaction with the facilitation provided by the Sudanese government for the delivery of humanitarian aid and the arrival of technical teams to the areas they aimed to visit.
According to Sudan News Agency, the MFA Acting Under-Secretary added that the TSC President directed the competent authorities to cooperate with the United Nations and its agencies in Sudan, expressing complete satisfaction with the existing
cooperation between the two parties. Al-Burhan also encouraged the United Nations and its agencies to intensify efforts to deliver relief to those in need.
Omar Issa mentioned that crossings and airports will be opened to facilitate the flow of aid and noted, “There are some requests submitted by the UN mission and they will be studied by the Sudanese side,” adding that some proposals are positive and will be addressed in the coming days.
Tom Fletcher expressed his gratitude for the efforts of the Sudanese government in advancing humanitarian action and delivering aid. He stated, “My visit to Sudan came within the framework of standing on the field on the humanitarian conditions and the work of the technical teams affiliated with the mission on the ground and listening to their vision with the aim of taking the necessary arrangements to support the humanitarian fields.”
The UN Under-Secretary-General emphasized that the TSC President assured the government’s commitment to cooperating and coordinating with
the United Nations to ensure the flow of humanitarian aid to those who deserve it. Tom Fletcher highlighted the importance of partnership and cooperation between the two sides to overcome challenges in humanitarian action and ensure aid reaches those in need.
