TSC President Engages with UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy


Khartoum: President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, held a meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, Ramtane Lamamra, accompanied by the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Idris Ismail.



According to Sudan News Agency, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs relayed that Lamamra delivered a message from UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres, emphasizing the UN’s involvement in Sudan during times of peace and conflict. Ambassador Idris highlighted that the TSC President reaffirmed Sudan’s trust in the UN’s pivotal role in addressing the nation’s challenges and committed to supporting efforts for peace, security, and stability.



The Acting Undersecretary further detailed that discussions during the meeting concentrated on the humanitarian situation in Sudan. The TSC President expressed Sudan’s dedication to aiding the UN in its humanitarian outreach to those in need. Lamamra conveyed that he received decisive responses from the TSC President on matters of interest to the international community about Sudan’s future.



Lamamra voiced his hope for security, stability, and peace in Sudan, emphasizing a focus on reconstruction and providing fundamental services to citizens. He confirmed the UN’s dedication to its mission in Sudan, asserting, “The United Nations will persist in efforts to fulfill its responsibilities in humanitarian support and pursuing peaceful resolutions as aligned with the international community, UN Charter, and relevant conventions.”



In conclusion, Lamamra mentioned that his interactions in Sudan yielded valuable insights which will be reported back to the UN Secretary-General and Security Council. He reiterated the UN’s commitment to supporting Sudan in achieving peace and a promising future for its people.
