Khartoum: President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, recently convened with the US Special Envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello. This meeting was attended by key figures, including Ambassador Omar Issa, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Sudan’s Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador Mohamed Abdullah.
According to Sudan News Agency, Ambassador Mohamed Abdullah conveyed that the meeting was comprehensive, addressing the ongoing crisis in Sudan. Discussions highlighted the severe impact on civilians due to the actions of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. The dialogue included a roadmap to cease hostilities, facilitate humanitarian aid, and promote social cohesion, with the US envoy presenting proposals that were positively received by TSC President.
Ambassador Abdullah emphasized that the Sudanese government is committed to maintaining open crossings and airports for humanitarian aid delivery.
However, TSC President Al-Burhan made it clear that the Adre crossing should not be used to supply arms to insurgents. He extended gratitude to the United States, the World Food Program, and USAID for their support to Sudanese citizens.
Further, the US Special Envoy’s visit included meetings with Sudanese officials, such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ali Yousuf, to discuss political and humanitarian issues. The envoy also conferred with the Sultan of Dar Masalit, Sa’ad Bahar Al-Eddin, about atrocities in West Darfur, and TSC Vice-President Malik Aggar, focusing on ending the conflict and securing aid distribution. The involvement of regional actors, like the United Arab Emirates, was also addressed.
Perriello expressed his satisfaction with the visit, underscoring the United States’ longstanding support for the Sudanese people. He highlighted the progress in aid accessibility and reiterated America’s commitment to ensuring that essential resources reach those in need. He shared the aspirati
on for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and a democratic future for Sudan. Perriello concluded by acknowledging the hospitality shown by Sudanese officials and community leaders during his visit.
