Geneva: Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid Hassan, received the Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Mr. Raouf Mazo, at his office on Tuesday. The meeting also included the UNHCR official responsible for the Sudan file.
According to Sudan News Agency, Ambassador Hassan discussed the humanitarian conditions and the rising displacement rates caused by the retaliatory attacks of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on civilians in Eastern Al-Gezira State. The conversation also covered developments in the humanitarian situations in other states and for refugees in neighboring countries. Ambassador Hassan emphasized that the government has facilitated and implemented measures to expedite aid delivery, yet the response rate for funding the plan for Sudanese refugees remains below 27%.
The UNHCR Assistant briefed Ambassador Hassan on his recent visit to Sudan and his field observations of refugee conditions in Eastern Chad. He underscored UNHCR’
s commitment to intensifying efforts to address the needs of refugees and displaced persons.
