Sudan’s Ambassador to Paris Condemns Rebel Militia Attacks in Press Conference.

Paris: Sudan’s ambassador to Paris and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Dr. Khalid Mohamed Farah, held a press conference on Wednesday at the mission’s premises, attended by numerous French media outlets. The ambassador focused on the current security, political, and humanitarian situation in Sudan, highlighting the violations by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Militia against civilians and public institutions. The atrocities committed by the RSF in Darfur, Sennar, and Eastern Al-Gezira State were underscored as areas of particular concern.

According to Sudan News Agency, Ambassador Farah emphasized that the events unfolding in Sudan since April 15, 2023, should not be misconstrued as a mere power struggle or civil war. Instead, he described it as a failed coup attempt against the constitutional and legitimate authority of the country. The ambassador alleged that the RSF militia is receiving support from foreign nations to advance
its own agendas and the interests of its allies, both inside and outside Sudan. Despite these challenges, the Sudanese armed forces, bolstered by the will of the people, have managed to thwart the militia’s plans.

The ambassador also accused neighboring and regional countries of providing direct support to the insurgent RSF militia through arming, financing, and facilitating the transfer of weapons, along with sending mercenaries to bolster the RSF’s ranks. He lamented the international community’s silence in the face of these aggressions and called for greater accountability.

Addressing the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) alleged involvement, Ambassador Farah revealed that Sudan has filed a formal complaint against the UAE with the UN Security Council, citing the destruction and displacement caused by the conflict. He also disputed UAE claims that the Sudanese Air Force bombed its ambassador’s residence in Khartoum.

Regarding recent military developments, Ambassador Farah reported that the Sudanese armed forc
es have made significant progress by reclaiming strategic sites, particularly in the capital and the Jebel Moya area. He condemned the RSF’s actions in Al-Gezira State, labeling them as genocide and crimes against humanity, and urged the international community to designate the RSF as a terrorist organization.

The ambassador appealed to journalists to report on the Sudanese situation with integrity and to aid in classifying the RSF militia as a terrorist entity through international media channels. He also welcomed regional and international efforts for peaceful resolutions, highlighting the Jeddah Agreement as a starting point that the RSF failed to honor.

On the humanitarian front, Ambassador Farah expressed gratitude to organizations providing aid and announced Sudan’s decision to open border crossings to facilitate humanitarian assistance. However, he warned that the RSF and its allies have been exploiting these crossings to smuggle weapons and fighters into the country.

In closing, the ambassador call
ed on the international community to take action against the RSF’s regional and international backers, stressing Sudan’s openness to peaceful solutions that respect its sovereignty and the dignity of its people.
