ADDIS ABABA, April 5 (NNN-ENA) -- Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has arrived in Addis Ababa for a three-day State visit to Ethiopia.

Upon his arrival at Bole International Airport here Tuesday, the President was welcomed by Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn.

During his stay, the president is expected to meet President Mulatu Teshome and Hailemariam to discuss bilateral and other issues of common concern.

The discussions are expected to focus on enhancing bilateral ties as well as the implementation of co-operation agreements signed previously, Minister at the Government Communication Affairs Office (GCAO) Dr. Negeri Lencho told the media.

The two countries are also expected to sign a number of new agreements to elevate bilateral relations further.

The visit of the President al-Bashir is seen as contributing to further strengthening of the existing relations between the two countries, Dr Negeri said.

The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, being built by Ethiopia on the Blue Nile not far from the border with Sudan, is also expected to be discussed by the leaders since Sudan is among the countries which is promoting fair utilization of the waters of the Nile, Dr Negeri said.

Ethiopia and Sudan have been co-operating in various areas and have concluded a number of agreement previously to co-operate inc sectors including power, security, livestock, transport and railways, among others. -- NNN-ENA
