KHARTOUM, -- The Sudanese government on Wednesday signed USD-18-million contracts to bridge projects financed by the Kuwait-based Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD).

The contracts consist of executing Kassala Bridge that links Kassala city and Delta Al Qash and Sidon Bridge, which links Kassala and the Nile River States.

Musa Mohamed Ahmed; Assistant to the President of Sudan, who attended the signing ceremony, lauded "distinguished" relation with Kuwait, especially what both AFESD and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Development are offering to support development in Eastern Sudan.

These road projects come as part of pledges made during the December 2010 international donors and investors conference to rebuild East Sudan.

The conference, which was held in Kuwait, resulted in establishing the Eastern Sudan Reconstruction and Development Fund that manages USD 3.5 billion.
