Khartoum: The Government of Sudan has expressed its gratitude towards the Russian Federation for vetoing a British draft resolution against Sudan in the Security Council. The Sudanese government praised Russia’s action as a demonstration of commitment to justice, respect for state sovereignty, adherence to international law, and support for Sudan’s independence, unity, and national institutions.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sudan released a statement lauding the Russian veto. The statement highlighted that Russia’s decision reflects a dedication to the principles of justice and sovereignty, and it serves as a rejection of the use of the Security Council’s platform to impose guardianship over nations. The government of Sudan views this move as a significant precedent that challenges the practice of serving narrow agendas at the expense of transparency and democracy, which could potentially undermine the Council’s role in maintaining international peace and security.
