Sudan: Ministry-IFAD Country Strategy in Sudan Is Reference Document for Joint Action

Khartoum — The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Ali Gadoum Al-Ghali has affirmed that the country strategy of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Sudan represents a reference document frames the joint action between IFAD and the Government of Sudan with regard to the policies, programs, projects and financial allocations based on the performance measurement and the progress made in the portfolio of projects towards achievement of the objectives and contribution to raising the incomes of beneficiaries and taking them out of poverty circle.

Al-Ghali pointed out, when he addressed the workshop on the mid-term evaluation of the IFAD strategy in Sudan during 2013-2018, that one of the objectives of the strategy was to contribute to the increase of productivity and the income of the targeted categories and to enable them access to the markets and rural finance, explaining that the strategy comes in line with the declared state policies and programs for the development of the agricultural sector, particularly the rain-fed traditional sector, which is targeted by this strategy to be productive sector and has a relationship and a link with the market, besides improvement of the livelihoods of rural citizens to get out of the cycle of poverty.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture said that his ministry over the recent years adopted the program of integrated solutions for agricultural package as a holistic and integrated approach as to promote the agricultural sector through the provision of inputs in a timely manner, to provide extension services and restructuring of producers sector under the umbrella of the law of the plant and animal production professionals to link them to financial services and markets.

Al-Ghali praised IFAD fund, which has been working in Sudan since 1978 in the field of rural development and initiatives it devised, stressing that all the recommendations concluded by the workshop will be considered.
