KHARTOUM,) -- The government of Sudan represented by the Ministry of International Co-operation and the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), a Horn of Africa grouping, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work together to implement a number of development activities covering infrastructure projects, capacity building and the environment.

The projects will be carried partly with fundin provided by the European Union (EU) for regional integration projects in Africa.

Minister of International Co-operation Dr. Kamal Hassan Ali signed on behalf of Sudan while IGAD Executive Secretary Mahaboub Moalim signed for his organization.

The Minister lauded the role which IGAD was playing in Sudan, referring to its contributions in the domain of peace, security and sponsorship of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in Sudan and its current role in supporting development projects in Sudan, which have been agreed upon during the technical meetings between the two sides.

Dr. Ali added that a number of projects, which had been agreed upon, included the electricity transmission network connection between Sudan and Ethiopia and a railway project.

The IGAD Executive Secretary pledged to co-operate with Sudan in a number of areas which it needs including infrastructure, migration, and capacity building, describing the meetings with the Sudanese side as fruitful. -
