Sudanese Minister of Industry Dr. Musa Mohamed Karama has discussed bilateral co0operation between his Ministry and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and projects Sudan has been implementing in the field of solar energy production, particularly in the states of Darfur in western Sudan.

This came during a meeting held Wednesday at his ministry's office with the UNIDO Coordinator of Solar Energy. Sabrina Kasperiti.

The Minister stressed that Sudan's solar energy projects represented one of the initiatives for economic and social benefit, to exploit the solar energy resources which Sudan enjoys and can be exploited for irrigation and other uses.

He said the establishment of training centres on solar energy production in El-Fashir, Nyala and El-Geneina were contributing to the realization of sustainable development in Sudan, apart from the provision of services and expansion of employment opportunities for the people of Darfur.

This was especially relevant given that Sudan is one of the countries most well endowed with solar energy potential, and because solar energy is considered a clean energy.

He affirmed his ministry's readiness to provide all facilities for the implementation of solar energy projects in Sudan.

The UNIDO Co-ordinator for the Solar Energy Production emphasized that the project would be implemented in the states of Darfur through the establishment of training centres in the field of solar energy production.
