A needy South Sudanese family in Kenya is appealing for financial aid to enable it meet medical costs for their son, who has been suffering from kidney failure.
28-year-old Ateny kuany Apar is a final-year medical student at Kabarak University in Nakuru County.
Ateny’s brother Mawut Kuany told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that his brother has been suffering from chronic kidney disease.
“The family took Ateny to Mediheal Hospital in Nairobi, where he has been admitted for the last three weeks and is receiving medical attention,” he said.
“Ateng has kidney problems. Doctors have said he needs a kidney transplant; this is the problem that we are currently at,” Mawut said.
Mawut pointed out that they are unable to raise the medical bills required for a kidney transplant at Mediheal Hospital in Nairobi.
“In terms of finances, we are not doing so well because now the bill for the kidney transplant we need is around $60,000 dollars for at least one kidney transplant. What we are struggling with now is to clear the hospital bill, which is at 1.1 million Kenya shillings,” the brother said.
Mawut expressed fear that they might lose Ateny if the condition is not treated urgently. The family is now appealing to the well-wishers to assist.
