Red Cross World Forum begins in Amman

The World Forum of the Red Cross, which is hosted by the Jordan National Red Crescent Society (JNRCS), began in Amman earlier on Monday, to tackle a range of issues, including strategies for building trust and the best methods for addressing misinformation and hate speech. The three-day conference will bring together 180 communication specialists from the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement from 80 countries, representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and representatives of national societies from around the world with the aim of strengthening the trust of the international community in the Red Cross and Red Crescent. The working sessions will focus on sharing expertise and experiences in a variety of areas of communication, such as storytelling, digital marketing, and the relationship with the media. President of the JNRCS Muhammad Hadid said: “Communication is an essential part of our humanitarian mission to ensure access to the target groups of the local community and to achieve effective communication with all segments of society,” adding that the goal is to “meet their humanitarian needs and humanize the media by highlighting the various aspects of suffering, achieve a better response and reduce the burden on the most vulnerable groups.” He added that many people in Jordan, including Syrian refugees, face various social, economic and health challenges, pointing out the importance of reaching out to them by sharing their stories and educating community members about the challenges they face and remedial actions.
