Qatar condemns Israel’s decision to ban UNRWA operations in OPT

Qatar strongly condemned the Israeli Knesset’s approval of bills prohibiting the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT), viewing it as a dangerous precedent against the United Nations and multilateralism, as well as a terrifying development in the occupation’s genocide war against the defenseless Palestinian population.

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized in a statement on Tuesday evening that the besieged Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip have continued to face catastrophic humanitarian conditions due to the brutal aggression targeting them for over a year, the obstruction of necessary aid delivery to the areas of the Strip, and the use of food and medicine as weapons against them.

The statement warned that banning UNRWA’s operations would lead to serious humanitarian and political consequences, particularly depriving millions of Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Jord
an, and Syria of its essential services, as well as the liquidation of the Palestinian refugees’ issue and their right to return to their areas and homes, which is guaranteed by international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, specifically UN General Assembly Resolutions 194 and 237.

The statement reiterated Qatar’s full support for the UNRWA, based on its steadfast position in support of the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, foremost of which their right to establish an independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
