Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn has re-affirmed Ethiopia's continued commitment to help bring peace and stability to South Sudan when he held talks South Sudan's Petroleum Minister, Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, on ways of ensuring peace and security in the neighbouring country here Monday.

Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth had come to Addis ababa to deliver a message from South Sudanese President Salva Kirr Mayardiit to theEthiopian Prime Minister, who is also the current Chair of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), an eight-nation Horn of Africa bloc.

The South Sudanese Minister said the message was mainly about the implementation of the forum his country signed with IGAD in 2015. The South Sudanese government is implementing the forum as it had promised and the aim of restoring stability in the conflict-stricken country.

Gatkuoth said South Sudan and Ethiopia would continue to co-operate in all spheres of activities. "For us, Ethiopia is a strategic country and a partner, and we will always continue to rely on Ethiopia for all things that could happen in South Sudan. It is Ethiopia that brought peace and stability to South Sudan," the Minister added.

Hailemariam urged the South Sudanese government to work towards full restoration of peace and stability in the country and solve the nation's problems in a more inclusive manner. According to him, all-round public participation is of crucial importance in seeking a political solution to the current crisis in South Sudan.

He noted that Ethiopia and South Sudan sharde an extensive common borders in which peoples of the same nationality, like the Anua, live on both sides of the border separating the two countries.

Peace and stability in South Sudan is therefore crucial to Ethiopia, Hailemariam emphasized, adding that Ethiopia would not allow South Sudan's government to plunge into total crisis.
