Peace delegates relocated to cheap hotels in Juba

The South Sudanese government has relocated peace delegates from expensive hotels in the capital, Juba to cheaper ones, a senior official said on Monday.

The information minister, Michael Makuei Lueth said those relocated were opposition members in the National Pre-transitional Committee, a body tasked with the oversight and implementation of the activities of the pre-transitional period.

We relocated peace delegates to cheaper hotels because there is no reason to keep people in five star hotels at a time when we need resources for implementation of the peace agreement, he said.

He further said implementation of the peace accord requires a lot of money. We need resources for the peace agreement, stressed Makuei.

Early this month, South Sudan's government and opposition parties agreed to give themselves six more months to form a transitional government as part of the peace deal they signed in September 2018.

At a meeting held in Addis Ababa from May 2 to 3, the parties acknowledged there were constraints to the implementation of the pre-transitional provisions within eight months in accordance with the peace deal.
