Only obstacle for receiving second tranche of EU macrofinancial aid is lifting timber exports ban
Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze has said that the only obstacle for receiving the new tranche of EUR 600 million of macrofinancial assistance from the European Union (EU) by Ukraine is lifting the ban on exports of round timber.
“This is the only issue blocking the receiving of more assistance from the EU by Ukraine, macrofinancial assistance, not credits,” she said on Channel 5 TV.
She said that this is EUR 600 million.
She said that after introducing the moratorium on exports of round timber Ukraine has violated its liabilities under the World Trade Organization (WTO) and under the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement.
Klympush-Tsintsadze said that the moratorium is not effective today, as forests are being cut, and timber is exported after changing the purpose of its use.
She said that at present she does not see a possibility of lifting the moratorium in the Verkhovna Rada, as the issue has been politicized.
