Office of Prime Minister of Republic of Sl : PM Cerar continues to strengthen relations between Slovenia and Japan In Tokyo

Having confirmed the highly developed, friendly political and economic relations between the two states, both ministers agreed that an effective cooperation also has to be maintained between members of both parliaments, who can contribute to further enhancement of bilateral relations. Chairman of the parliamentary Lower House as well as the Parliamentary Friendship group, which is composed of former ministers, emphasised the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, which can significantly contribute to the convergence of political stances and other business and cultural relations. They believe that the meeting between Prime Minister Cerar and Prime Minister Abe paved the way for a further strengthening of relations between Slovenia and Japan.
Japan’s representatives thanked Prime Minister Cerar for Slovenia’s standpoint regarding the UN Security Council reform under which Slovenia has supported Japan as a permanent member. The representatives also thanked, on behalf of those affected by the 2011 earthquake in Japan, for help received from Slovenia.
As the economic part of the visit, Cerar met today with Chairman of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Hiroyuki Ishige, who is responsible for the promotion of trade and investments between Japan and the rest of the world, and with representatives of the Daihen and Nippen Express companies, which are already active within the Slovenian economy. Japan also expressed great interest in optimal transport connections between Port Koper as well as the central and other parts of Europe, and in highly educated workforce.

On Tuesday, his last day of the visit, Cerar will attend a meeting at the Keidanren Japan Business Federation and, after that, he will also meet with the highest representatives of the Yaskawa Europe company. He will conclude his visit stopping by at the KEK Japanese high energy accelerator research organisation in Tsukuba.
