Norway shows us what we missed

The Brexit vote created a new paradigm: prevailing political, economic and trading models changed. The SNP government missed this historical pivot and is now thrashing around wildly, trying, and failing, to find a coherent policy on Scotland’s relationship with the UK and the EU.

Permit me a wry smile as I watch the latest anti-Brexit manoeuvres. In the 2014 independence referendum, with the SNP wedded to membership of the EU, I actively advocated the European Free Trade Association (Efta), which offered Scotland access through the European Economic Area (EEA) to the whole European market, and the ability to exercise a greater range of sovereign powers than is available as a member of the EU.
