Cairo: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on the League of Arab States to submit a draft resolution that affirms and strengthens Arab efforts to support peace and development in Sudan. This came during the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the League of Arab States, held in Cairo, which was preceded by a meeting of permanent representatives.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and head of the Sudanese delegation, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin Al-Fadil, stated that the draft resolution supporting development and peace in Sudan was discussed. Ambassador Al-Fadil noted that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) delegation attempted to appear supportive of peace, development, and stability in Sudan by proposing amendments to the draft resolution. However, the Sudanese delegation opposed any changes that might undermine the resolution’s core objective.
Ambassador Al-Fadil emphasized that the Sudanese delegation presented evidence before the Security Council to counter the UAE’s position, arguing that the UAE is a key party to the conflict and supports the rebel militia. Therefore, they asserted, the UAE cannot credibly present itself as committed to peace and the safety of the Sudanese people.
The Undersecretary further explained, “We called on the Arab League and the heads of delegations to realize Sudan’s aspiration that the Arab League will present an honorable draft resolution that affirms and strengthens Arab efforts to support peace and development in Sudan.” He acknowledged that there are Arab countries working individually with the Sudanese government, supporting peace efforts and providing humanitarian aid, for which the Sudanese delegation expressed gratitude.
