Khartoum: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has strongly condemned the hosting of Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia representatives in foreign forums, urging that the group be classified as a terrorist organization. In a press statement released Thursday, the MFA highlighted the RSF’s ongoing human rights violations in Al-Gezira and other regions, despite widespread regional and international condemnation.
According to Sudan News Agency, the MFA detailed the recent massacre committed by the Janjaweed militia in Al-Hilaliya, Al-Gezira State. The attack resulted in the deaths of 120 individuals, who succumbed to gunfire, food poisoning, and lack of medical care. The militia continues to hold civilians, including men, women, and children, hostage in various locations throughout the city.
The MFA’s statement emphasized that these atrocities are part of a larger pattern of violence by the RSF. In the past two weeks, the militia has been implicated in massacres in Al-Sereiha village and 58 other villages, as
well as six cities in Eastern Al-Gezira State. These acts are described as revenge campaigns against innocent civilians, following defections within the militia’s ranks.
The violence in Al-Gezira coincides with similar brutal actions in North Darfur, where the militia engaged in retaliatory campaigns after failed attacks on Al-Fashir, leading to the burning of over 40 villages. The MFA criticized the international community’s lack of decisive action, highlighting the militia’s disregard for verbal condemnations and UN Security Council Resolution No. 2736, which it responded to with escalated violence.
The MFA argued that the systematic escalation of massacres is aimed at provoking international military intervention under the guise of civilian protection, which would ultimately benefit the militia by preserving its occupied positions and allowing it to continue holding civilians hostage. The statement called for the international community to classify the RSF as a terrorist organization and prosecute its le
aders, while also holding accountable those who support or host the militia’s representatives.
