MFA Condemns Escalation of RSF Militia’s Criminal Aggression Against IDPs Camps

Khartoum: Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement condemning the escalation of the terrorist Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia’s criminal aggression against the displaced persons (IDPs), with its direct barbaric attack on the Zamzam camp, after experiencing the indifference of the international community regarding its continued daily shelling of the camp with heavy artillery since December 2024.

According to Sudan News Agency, the RSF Janjaweed militia, backed by its regional sponsor, is escalating its campaign of genocide against the majority of Darfur’s population. The militia has been waging an ongoing attack on the Zamzam camp for internally displaced persons near El Fasher for the past two days. The attack has been publicized through the militia’s own propaganda.

Field reports confirm that the militia has targeted IDPs on an ethnic basis while preventing those fleeing the violence from leaving the camp. This mirrors previous attacks by the militia in El Geneina and Ardamata, West Darfur, in June 2023. The militia reportedly burned markets, food and water warehouses, and primary health care points during their withdrawal. The World Food Programme reported last week that the militia detained and diverted food convoys heading to the camp.

Elsewhere in Darfur, there are reports of the militia committing rape and sexual violence against IDPs in other camps, such as Kalma camp in South Darfur. The militia’s regional sponsor is held responsible for supplying heavy weapons and artillery used against the camp residents.

The UN Security Council and Western powers are also criticized for their silence on the militia’s continuous shelling of the camp, defying Security Council decisions to end the siege of El Fasher. The Western powers’ inaction is seen as enabling the regional sponsor and the RSF militia to continue their actions against the people of Darfur.
