LIFTING OF US SANCTIONS ON SUDAN BOOSTS FUNDING FOR PROJECTS
KHARTOUM, The partial lifting of sanctions imposed on Sudan by the United States offers announced by US President Barack Obama last week great opportunities for the development of many projects in this ountry, says Minister of Industry Dr. Mohamed Yousuf Ali.
He said here Sunday that the decision to lift the economic sanctions would boost development in the industrial sector in Sudan by taking advantage of the country's energy and raw material resources in the sectors of agriculture, minerals and other resources.
The minister noted in a media statement that the industrial sector was directly affected by this decision as required modern technologies to achieve value-added development and the sector would now have great opportunities to take advantage of the big Arab and African markets.
Dr. Ali revealed that his Ministry would work in the coming period to develop the textile, pharmaceuticals, leather and engineering industries in connection with global developments.
He added that the lates development could result in financing being obtainable at a reasonable cost from Arab, regional and international institutions and provided an opportunity for the industrial sector of Sudan to obtain the needed technologies to achieve the goals of the country's economic development programme to make the industrial sector an engine for growth.
The upswing of the industrial sector will help solve the problem of unemployment by creating new jobs for the youth, he added.
Meanwhile, President Omer Al-Bashir on Sunday received A telephone call from President Abdo Rabu Mansour of Somalia congratulating President Al-Bashir on the lifting of American sanctions which were imposed on Sudan.
