Kuwait Calls For Security, Stability In Sudan

KUWAIT Kuwait said that, it hopes measures taken in Sudan would pave the way for security and stability in the country.

The government, in a meeting chaired by Acting Prime Minister and Defence Minister, Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, said in a statement that, it hopes the measures would honour legitimate aspirations of the Sudanese people.

It urged the Sudanese people to observe the country's interest, in a drive to maintain Sudan's unity, sovereignty and independence, the statement said.

The Sudanese army ousted and detained former Sudanese President, Omar al-Bashir, on April 11, in response to four months of nationwide protests against his three-decade rule.

Sudan's Transitional Military Council (TMC) chief, Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan, announced in a televised speech that, a civilian government will soon be formed based on national consensus.

He also assured that the TMC is committed to a two-year transitional period, after which the rule will be handed over to the civilian government formed by the people.
