Nairobi: President William Ruto has declared that teachers in Kenya will receive 20% of the Affordable Housing units due to their significant contribution to the housing scheme. During the Waalimu Na Rais Forum held at State House, Nairobi, the President highlighted that teachers contribute 13% to the housing levy, which translates to Ksh 900 million monthly, justifying their entitlement to benefit from the program.
According to Nam News Network, during the forum, President Ruto also addressed various concerns and developments within the education sector. He mentioned that the education budget has seen a significant increase, rising from Ksh 540 billion to Ksh 702 billion over the last three years. The President reassured stakeholders about the Competency-Based Curriculum’s smooth transition, emphasizing the hiring of 76,000 teachers and plans to recruit at least 100,000 more by January to improve the teacher-student ratio.
In addition to addressing educational matters, President Ruto dismissed claims made by his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, who suggested that meetings at State House were breeding grounds for corruption. Meanwhile, the President also held discussions with Ambassador Ramtane Lamamra, the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, regarding the situation in Sudan.
