New york: Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris is set to lead Sudan’s delegation at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Accompanying him will be the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohy-Eddin Salim.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Prime Minister plans to deliver Sudan’s address before the General Assembly and engage in discussions with numerous heads of state and government, the UN Secretary-General, and leaders of international and regional organizations. Concurrently, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will have meetings with his counterparts and representatives from various international and regional bodies.
The Sudanese delegation is also expected to take part in several side events during the General Assembly meetings. These include the annual ministerial meeting of the Least Developed Countries, the senior officials’ meeting of the Group of 77 and China, and the coordination meeting of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Additionally, they will attend the Arab consultative meeting, the first bilateral summit for a sustainable global economy, and a meeting focused on accelerating efforts to prevent non-communicable diseases in humanitarian fragile contexts, among others.
This participation is seen as a crucial opportunity for the Sudanese delegation to clarify recent developments in Sudan. It will also serve to highlight severe human rights violations committed by the rebellious Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, with mercenaries from various countries, including Colombia, reportedly involved.
