Jumblatt offers condolences to Sudanese President for Sheikh alTurabi’s death

"Democratic Gathering" Head, MP Walid Jumblatt, sent a cable on Sunday to Sudanese President, Omar al-Bashir, offering sincere condolences for the passing away of Sheikh Hassan al-Turabi.

Jumblatt stressed that the death of Sheikh al-Turabi constitutes for Sudan, the Arab and Islamic world, the loss of an "intellectual, researcher, and scholar whose absence would leave a huge emptiness on various political, cultural and legal levels."

He added that "al-Turabi was an intellectual who studied in Sudan and Europe, then returned to Khartoum to fight for the principles in which he believed, especially for public liberties and the battle against corruption, for which reasons he was rrested several times."
