Iraq Calls for Islamic Military Alliance to Counter Israeli Actions

Baghdad: Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has called for the establishment of an Islamic military alliance, saying recent Israeli actions in Gaza and Qatar demand a collective response. Sudani emphasized the need for a united front among Muslim nations to address what he described as a regional security threat stemming from Israeli policies.

According to TRTworld.com, Sudani highlighted a recent airstrike on Doha that resulted in the deaths of five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer. He condemned the attack as a shocking breach of international law, underscoring the need for a unified Islamic military response to protect the region’s security and interests.

The Iraqi Prime Minister expressed his views during an interview with Qatar’s Al Jazeera channel, where he stressed the importance of Arab and Islamic countries forming a comprehensive political, security, and economic partnership. Sudani argued that there is no reason Muslim nations cannot establish a joint security force to defend themselves against external threats.

The airstrike targeted a residential compound where Hamas leaders were reportedly discussing a U.S. proposal to end the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Since October 2023, more than 64,800 Palestinians have lost their lives in the conflict, highlighting the urgent need for a resolution.
