The Independent Election Commission (IEC), chaired by IEC Deputy Chairman Ammar Husseini, held a comprehensive evaluation session with the accredited local observers, aiming to assess the 2024 Lower House of Parliament election process.
During the meeting, Husseini emphasized the importance of investing in and building upon the positives and the necessity of addressing the negatives to ensure higher quality elections in the future.
He said, “You have been in the field since the beginning of the electoral process, closely observing the procedures, and we seek to benefit from your observations to achieve tangible improvements.”
For her part, IEC member, Abeer Dababneh, clarified that the IEC is preparing an internal evaluation of its performance with the aim of improving and refining the electoral process in a manner that serves the national interest.
Dababneh underlined that the IEC will take the observers’ comments seriously and will refer them to the relevant units for study and necessary action.
For th
eir part, local observers valued the session’s topics and the IEC’s interaction with their remarks, noting that the discussion included several key points, among them the evaluation of executive instructions and their implementation mechanism and the assessment of women’s participation rate in the electoral process, including the role of female observers in monitoring the process.
They expressed their appreciation for the IEC’s efforts in their approval and facilitation of their procedures, considering that the cooperation of the electoral committees with them during the process was a positive step deserving of praise.
At the end of the session, the observers presented a set of observations regarding the electoral process, focusing on developing monitoring mechanisms and enhancing transparency, reaffirming that incorporating these recommendations will contribute to improving the experience of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
