At least five people were killed and one injured while more than 1,460 cattle were raided in separate attacks in Uror County in Jonglei State since Sunday, authorities said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Commissioner Machot Gatluak Kenyjak of Uror County said: “In the first incident, 70 cows were raided from Partet at 2 am on Sunday and later the same day at 12 pm, an elderly herdsman was killed, and his 41 cows raided in Pieri Payam. In the second incident on Monday at 2 am in Motot Payam, four people were killed, one injured, and 1350 cows raided.”

The commissioner accused armed youth from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) of involvement in the attack.

Meanwhile, Gatluak Reath Wuol, an Uror youth leader, also confirmed the incidents and said local youth were pursuing the attackers in a bid to recover the stolen animals.

For his part, Simon Peter Ajeny, the GPAA local government minister, said: “As we speak, clashes are ongoing in our territories. There could have been logic in their claims if these attacks were to be reported after some time because it will be until then that it may be considered as revenge attacks. But now, we think what happens here are revenge attacks among themselves.”
