Government Condemns Rebel RSF Militia’s Escalation of Attacks in Darfur

Khartoum: Minister of Culture and Information, official spokesman for the government, Khalid Al-Aiser, stated that the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia has intensified its assaults on displaced persons (IDPs) camps in Darfur, including the Zamzam camp. These actions are seen as a continuation of violations against defenseless civilians.

According to Sudan News Agency, Al-Aiser emphasized in a Facebook post that the government condemns the ongoing tragic incidents affecting Zamzam camp, the civilian population in El-Fashir city, and other locations. These incidents include the burning and destruction of property, compounding the sufferings of innocent civilians who are in urgent need of protection and aid.

The minister highlighted that these actions are clear violations of human rights and called for accountability and criminal prosecution of those responsible. He urged that the rebel RSF militia be classified as a terrorist organization under international humanitarian law, which criminalizes acts that jeopardize the safety and dignity of IDPs.

The government spokesman expressed surprise at the international community’s silence regarding these violations by the militia. He assured that the government remains committed to defending the rights of IDPs and ensuring their safety. He called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to take responsibility in addressing these serious violations.
