Riyadh: The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassim Mohammed Al-Badawi, has expressed his support for the joint statement released by the quadripartite meeting involving Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the United States concerning the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Al-Badawi commended the principles outlined in the statement, which stressed the importance of respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. The statement called for an immediate ceasefire, the facilitation of safe and unhindered access for humanitarian aid across Sudan, and the protection of civilians and infrastructure in line with international humanitarian law. Furthermore, it advocated for a transition to a comprehensive and transparent political process aimed at forming a civilian government that embodies the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security and stability.
The Secretary-General reiterated the full support of GCC states for these international and Arab initiatives. He also expressed the Council’s readiness to collaborate with various partners to promote lasting peace, alleviate the hardships faced by the Sudanese people, and ensure the preservation and stability of Sudanese state institutions.
