Luanda: Foreign Minister Ambassador Dr. Ali Yousuf Ahmed Al-Sharif participated in the 18th Ministerial Meeting of the Regional Ministerial Committee of the Great Lakes Organization, held in the Angolan capital. The meeting saw involvement from various Foreign Ministers of the member countries.
According to Sudan News Agency, during the meeting, Dr. Al-Sharif expressed gratitude towards the Republic of Angola for organizing the event. He highlighted the significance of the meeting, emphasizing the pressing challenges related to peace and security affecting countries like Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Central African Republic. Dr. Al-Sharif stressed the necessity for collaborative efforts among member states to tackle these issues effectively.
Dr. Al-Sharif underscored Sudan’s backing for the Luanda process, spearheaded by the Great Lakes Group of States, aimed at normalizing relations between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda. This initiative aligns with the Nairobi proc
ess, which is led by East African nations to foster peace in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Furthermore, Dr. Al-Sharif praised the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region for its stance against the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. The conference, in its extraordinary summit statement, called for the RSF to be condemned and labeled as a terrorist organization due to the severe atrocities committed against civilians since the onset of the conflict.
