The Chinese government has pledged $300,000 as humanitarian aid for flood-affected victims across the country.
More than 800,000 people have been severely affected by heavy rains and floods in parts of the country since last month, the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, UNOCHA reported. Most of the affected have been displaced and lack basic needs.
The Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan Hua Ning announced the pledge at a meeting with South Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Minister Beatrice Khamisa Wani on Monday.
“We are very concerned about the flood situation. As the Chinese government, we donate 300,000 US dollars for flood-affected areas and we hope the security will improve very soon,” Ning said.
Torrential rains across the country have caused havoc in several parts of the country including greater Jonglei, Lakes, parts of Central and Western Equatoria states.
