KHARTOUM, -- The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning has reiterated its commitment to purchase wheat from farmers at the declared stabilization price of 400 Sudanese pounds (about 65.60 US dollars) a sack as directed by the President of the Republic.
The First Under-Secretary of the Ministry, Mustafa Yousuf Holy, said this Sunday that in his field visit to the Gezira Scheme, to provide the funding required to purchase the crop from the producers at the scheme and other schemes through the Agricultural Bank.
He added that all necessary measures to implement the procurement arrangements had been made, and stressed the ministry's commitment to address obstacles hindering harvesting operations in co-ordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Agricultural Bank and the relevant parties.
Holy said his visit to the Gezira Scheme, accompanying the State Minister at the Ministry of Agriculture, Yagoub Mohamed Al-Tayib, and the Director-General of the Agricultural Bank, Salah Hassan, would be followed by visits to other agricultural schemes in order to follow up the operations of wheat harvesting to ensure availability of the grain to meet market needs and to build a strategic reserve of this strategic food commodity which the government devotes much concern to in ensuring its price at a sustainable, reasonable level.
