Khartoum: Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Dr. Gebriel Ibrahim has reiterated the Sudanese government’s commitment to tackling the repercussions of the ongoing war and its adverse effects on both citizens and national infrastructure. He highlighted the international community’s shortcomings in aiding Sudan to navigate through the current crisis.
According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Ibrahim, during a meeting with German Ambassador to Sudan Thomas Terstigen held at the Ministry on Monday, discussed the severe consequences of the war on Sudan’s vulnerable citizens and resources. The minister emphasized the widespread damage to infrastructure and the stagnation of production activities, lamenting the lack of substantial international support beyond humanitarian aid in health and education, which is often channeled through United Nations organizations.
Dr. Ibrahim expressed optimism that Germany could play a pivotal role in galvanizing international support for the Sudanese populace and assist in the rec
onstruction efforts of war-torn areas. He also raised concerns about the high costs associated with transporting humanitarian aid via the Adre crossing, which is under rebel control. He suggested that the crossing should be closed unless it is monitored by government authorities.
In response, Ambassador Terstigen reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing cooperative relations between Germany and Sudan. He reassured Sudan of Germany’s support in achieving peace through negotiations, highlighting his concern for addressing the war’s impact on citizens and advancing the political process in Sudan.
