Khartoum: Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim, is to lead the Sudanese delegation participating in the 2025 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WB), which is being held in Washington, D.C., during April 21-27. The meetings are set to address significant global economic developments, macroeconomic challenges, and topics concerning digitization, financial services technology, and climate change. Additionally, the event will feature seminars and discussion sessions focusing on global economic issues, international development, and financial markets.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Minister is expected to engage in a series of crucial meetings on the sidelines of the primary event with representatives from international financial institutions, including the IMF and the World Bank, as well as regional financing entities. These meetings aim to foster international economic cooperation and strengthen bilateral partnerships that align with Sudan’s development priorities.
The agenda for the meetings places a significant emphasis on resolving Sudan’s external debt issues and exploring opportunities to refinance vital projects in health, education, and humanitarian support sectors. This will be pursued through collaboration with specialized international organizations. The Sudanese delegation in Washington will also include Mohamed Bashar, the Undersecretary of Planning at the Ministry of Finance, along with a high-level technical team from relevant departments within the ministry.
