Washington: Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim, engaged in discussions with Mr. Regis N’sonde, Executive Director of the African Group III of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), focusing on enhancing cooperation and coordination between Sudan and the IMF. This dialogue comes in the context of the economic and development challenges facing both Sudan and the broader African region.

According to Sudan News Agency, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the spring meetings of the IMF and the World Bank in Washington. Dr. Ibrahim provided a detailed briefing on Sudan’s economic developments, highlighting the positive trajectory amid ongoing conflict. He noted the gradual recovery of the national economy, marked by improved commercial activities and stable exchange rates, suggesting signs of relative economic stability.

Dr. Ibrahim projected a significant economic transformation at the start of the next year, driven by the return of citizens to liberated areas and the resumptio

The meeting also focused on shared development challenges in Africa and strategies to achieve sustainable development goals through collective action within the African Group. Discussions highlighted the Group’s role in influencing IMF decisions to ensure support for African countries, particularly in agriculture, education, healthcare, capacity building, and youth involvement in international financial institutions.

Dr. Ibrahim expressed Sudan’s intent to leverage IMF’s technical expertise to bolster national financial institutions, including the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Sudan. Concluding the meeting, Mr. N’sonde pledged continued support for Sudan in international forums and expressed his intention to visit Sudan, reinforcing solidarity
and ongoing cooperation.
