ETHIOPIAN PM DISCUSSES SUDAN, SOUTH SUDAN WITH UN SPECIAL ENVOY
ADDIS ABABA, -- Ethiopia is committed to exertING efforts to resolve the challenges faced in Sudan and South Sudan in collaboration with the United Nations, says Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn.
The prime minister conferred here Wednesday with the visiting Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Sudan and South Sudan, Nicholas Haysom, on issues related to those two neighbouring countries.
Hailemariam said Ethiopia would help ensure peace and security in the two countries. Furthermore, as the current chair of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), an eight-nation Horn of Africa grouping, Ethiopia is ready to work with the African Union (AU) and the UN to bring about sustainable peace and stability in the region, he added.
Haysom later told journalists that he discussed with the prime minister about the situation in Sudan and South Sudan and also relations between the two countries.
He added that they also discussed the challenges the two countries faced and the need for dialogue and support from the AU, IGAD and the UN to find solutions to the problems faced by the two countries.
