El-Fashir: The armed forces, the joint force of the armed struggle movements, the popular resistance, and mobilized personnel, supported by artillery and aviation, successfully repelled an attack by the Al-Dagalo militia on the Zamzam camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) early Wednesday morning. The assault, which began at six o’clock, resulted in losses for the militia in both lives and equipment, as they were pursued towards the southeast of El-Fashir.
According to Sudan News Agency, the 6th Infantry Division in El-Fashir reported in a media briefing that the militia had intended to steal and loot the property of the displaced people. This came after the militia had already burned traditional oil presses, peanut stores, and other shops the previous evening. The briefing confirmed that the armed forces, supported by the joint force and popular resistance, have regained control, restoring normalcy in the camp. The division emphasized that Zamzam will not fall and assured that El-Fashir remains steadfast against the Al-Dagalo militia.
SUNA reports that the Janjaweed militia has persisted in its assault on the Zamzam camp, located 17 km south of El-Fashir, for a second consecutive day through eastern and southeastern routes. This continued aggression has resulted in violations and crimes against unarmed civilians, with the militia looting their possessions.
The attack led to the death of several citizens, including children, women, and the elderly, while others sustained injuries of varying severity. The camp market and homes of the IDPs were set ablaze, and goods and commercial commodities were looted and stolen.
