DEFENSE MINISTER MEETS WITH HASHEM, UNITED NATIONS ORGANIZATIONS DELEGATION: KEENNESS ON COORDINATION WITHIN FRAMEWORK OF COOPERATION PROGRAM

Caretaker Minister of National Defense, Maurice Selim, met at his office in Yarzeh today, the Director of Coordination in the Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Alaa Abdel Aziz, with a delegation representing United Nations organizations. Talks centered on areas of cooperation in accordance with the “United Nations Framework for Cooperation for Sustainable Development 2023-2025”, which Lebanon had signed. This is the most important tool in terms of planning and implementing the United Nations development activities at the national level, in line with national development priorities and implementing a comprehensive package of reforms to cater to people’s needs. The delegation was briefed, according to a statement by the media office of the Defense Minister, about the priorities of the Ministry of Defense and its affiliated institutions, and what proposals can be presented in a coordinated manner in order to achieve the desired goals. Minister Selim praised “the ongoing and close cooperation with the organizations of the United Nations, especially those that cooperate directly with the Ministry of National Defense in matters that concern the military institution.” He affirmed “commitment to the requirements of cooperation with United Nations organizations to serve the national strategy.” The Defense Minister later met with MP Kassem Hashem, with whom he reviewed the general situation prevailing in the country.
