Crackdown on water theft ends attacks in Southern Shuna


Ministry of Water and Irrigation, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, has detected attacks on the main water pipelines supplying Southern Shuna region.

The illegal infrastructures was used to illegally siphon off water to supply farms and fill ponds that draw “large” quantities from citizens’ quotas allocated for drinking water.

According to a ministry statement on Tuesday, attacks on lands in Ar-Ramah area were removed and thefts on water lines were ended, while the incident’s documents will be transferred to the relevant authorities to take legal measures against the violators.

The ministry affirmed the crackdown is “ongoing” countrywide, valuing cooperation of the Ministry of Interior, the Public Security Directorate (PSD), security services, and citizens in countering attacks on water infrastructure.
