Attorney General: Sudan’s Statement Before Human Rights Council Documents Militia Crimes, Urges Ending the Fact-Finding Mission

Geneva: The Attorney General of the Republic of Sudan, Intisar Ahmed Abdel-Aal, announced that Sudan has presented a comprehensive statement before the Human Rights Council. This statement documents the crimes committed by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, including sexual violence, forced displacement, genocide, and war crimes. Abdel-Aal noted that several cases have already been referred to the independent Sudanese judiciary. Additionally, she emphasized Sudan’s call for the termination of the ongoing fact-finding mission and urged the international community to exert pressure on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to cease its support for the militia.

According to Sudan News Agency, during their engagement, the Sudanese delegation also met with the Council’s President, the High Commissioner, and representatives from Amnesty International. The discussions focused on measures to facilitate justice, including the formation of female investigation teams and the removal of procedural restrictions that hinder the judicial process.
